I live about a two minute drive away from school, yet I never seem to be able to get to school early. I know that it isn't necessary to arrive to school early, but I would like to have time to get to my first class on time. I don't want to arrive right on time because that doesn't give me any time to get situated and figure out my schedule. I know that if I just looked through my schedule the night before that it would be much easier but I never seem to remember. I think that I think that I have all the time in the world to lose and I don't hurry enough.
In the future I plan on trying to get things done the night before so I can move quickly and get to school with time to spare. When I am late there is a little bit of traffic on the boulevard that takes up more time, but if I'm early the drive is easy and the roads are clear. I'm sure that it's much more difficult for people who live about thirty minutes away because with traffic it would take a while to get to school.
Reading Response 1/30
I have been enjoying the story of Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian so far. I felt bad for Arnold when Oscar, his best friend and pet, was getting very sick and finally had to be put down by is father. Arnold likes to draw cartoons to escape from his overwhelming reality. Arnold also suffers from a disease called Hydrocephalus which makes him an even bigger target for bullies. Arnold has lived in the reservation all of his life so I really applaud him for leaving and taking a big step for his future. Before he left, he was just a nobody in a town of nobody's, so when Mr. P tells him to leave I was surprised.
Before Arnold is told to leave the rez entirely, he recieves a "new" textbook from Mr. P, his teacher. Later Arnold finds out that this book belonged to his mother several years before. This enrages Arnold, as he is a big fan of books. In this rage, he throws the book across the room, but he hits Mr. P in the face and breaks his nose. This leads up to Arnold getting a lecture from Mr. P and being told to leave the rez. Arnold later switches to a school with much better education and standards, Reardan.

My research topic is on ancient Egyptian religion. My main focus for this topic was on how Egyptian polytheism affected the everyday lives of the ancient Egyptians. I feel that my topic is interesting because you can see how this ancient civilization functioned and how they incorporated religion into their daily lives. I have always been fascinated with Egyptian culture but what I love the most about Egyptian religion are the gods that they praised. There are so many gods that they worship, but above all my personal favorite is Ptah, the Egyptian god of creation.
In ancient Egyptian religion, the kings or pharaohs were thought of as gods, sons of gods, images of gods or could be described as like the gods. Some pharaohs possessed names like "Son of Ra" to show the link between man and god. In worship, the kings were the only ones that could speak directly to the gods. The overall effect of ancient Egypt excites me, and I may want to further study this subject in the future.

Last semester I think that the main thing that I learned was to always focus on the task at hand. I noticed that I can get distracted very easily and not complete my work until the day before the assignment is due. I have been known to also be the one to distract others mainly through talking during an integral part of class time. Throughout my high school experience thus far, distraction has taken a toll on the quality of my work. If I weren't so distracted, I would probably be doing better work.
With this in mind, I plan on trying to improve my ability to stay focused by decreasing the amount of the time I spend playing games. One of the reasons that I was so distracted was that I found the work boring and I wanted to do anything but work. If I were to be able to focus mainly on my schoolwork rather than thinking about what I'd rather be doing at that time, I would be able to finish quicker and do what I wanted afterward.

I was born in Boca Raton, which is close to Miami. Right after I was born, my family and I moved to Lake Worth Florida into a community called Winston Trails Golf Club. After pre-school, I was enrolled in an elementary school called Manatee Elementary School. I stayed in this school until second grade and my mom decided that we were moving to Louisiana. I had never heard of Louisiana let alone Baton Rouge before she told me. It was kind of a sad because I was happy in my school and I loved my friends, but I quickly adjusted to my new life in Baton Rouge.
When we arrived we decided to stay in an apartment complex on Millerville until we could find a good neighborhood close to my new school. We hadn't decided which school I would be attending and I visited a couple in the Baton Rouge area. Since my mom was an alum from Episcopal, this was an obvious contender. After visiting many schools, we finally came to the conclusion that we would try Episcopal first. I was given a test to determine if I would be a good fit in the school. Luckily I passed the test and was accepted into Episcopal. If I hadn't been accepted I'm not sure where I would be today.
Research Update
So far my research has been going great. It was easy at the beginning of the process to find secondary sources for my topic. Later on, when I switched my focus on primary sources it got a little more difficult. Since my topic is about ancient Egyptian religion, It was hard to find a viable source. When I finally came across some good, usable sources, I cited them and annotated them as best as I could. Now I'm trying my best to get as many notecards done as I can for the deadline on Wednesday, and so far I have about fifteen cards.
I'm doing my notecards on physical paper notecards so the process is a little slower than on the computer. I chose to do them on paper because I'm not that great of a typer and my writing is faster. I think that having this project for English and World History was a great idea because we can put our focus in both classes on one project. Also, we get to use both class periods to work on the same assignment. Overall, I think that my project is moving at a decent pace and I hope to finish my notecards soon.
